The Chicago Open has come and gone. This year the chess tournament was held in Wheeling Illinois, approximately an hour outside of Chicago. The facility was nice and well lit. There was a modest amount of participation.

Jessica’s competition

Posted by Frank | News | Sunday 18 May 2008 1:27 am

Today, I played a young man at the Borders bookstore in Chicago’s Hyde Park by the name of Sonam. Sonam is eight years old! (photos coming soon). This young man played me in a slow game of chess with a 45 minute time control. The long and short of it is this. He won! I continue to be very impressed with this young man and hope to play him many more times before I leave Chicago.

He is officially the youngest opponent I have lost to.
